7 PMTanner Laws Band and moreSpanish Ballroom, TacomaMusic

McMenamins presents a night at the Spanish Ballroom featuring the Tanner Laws Band with Cody Bartels. This all ages show offers tickets at $14.99 in advance and $19.99 on the day of the event. Raised in the mountains of western Montana, singer and songwriter Tanner Laws drew on a life of steep peaks, wide valleys, rodeos, rivers, and long winters. He studied civil engineering at Montana Tech, then chose to pursue music full time. After years of honing his songs in bars, dance halls, and rodeos around his home state, he formed the Tanner Laws Band in 2024. The group pairs jazz-schooled bass and drums from the University of Montana with a software engineer on electric guitar and pedal steel, a standout fiddler, and Laws at the mic with a voice shaped by open country. Their sound leans into country and folk storytelling, with nods to Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, and the Turnpike Troubadours, putting pedal steel and fiddle up front, a dance-ready groove underneath, and lyrics grounded in lived experience. In their debut year they earned the title of Missoula’s Best New Band. They quickly took to the road, opening for artists such as the Turnpike Troubadours, Clint Black, Colby Acuff, Gary Allan, Rodney Atkins, Corey Kent, Braxton Keith, Dustin Lynch, and Sam Barber. They have also received Northwest CMA honors for Songwriter of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Favorite Local Solo Artist, and have performed at the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale, the Calgary Stampede, numerous rodeos and county fairs, and listening rooms that stretch from Montana to Atlanta. Cody Bartels also performs.

7 PMBluegrass Jam at the Machine House BreweryMachine House Brewery, SeattleMusic

Machine House Brewery hosts a bluegrass jam every Wednesday in Hillman City that welcomes all ages and all skill levels. It is free to participate, and supporting the venue by buying a beverage and tipping the bartender is encouraged. Members of the Outlander Progressive Bluegrass Social Club receive $1 off each drink by showing a membership card. Dogs are welcome, and those who do not drink are still welcome to attend. New and beginner musicians who can play basic rhythm chords can join in, and familiarity with the Nashville Number System helps since many tunes are called by number. Leading a song is optional, and during larger gatherings some players may be asked to sit in an outer circle. Sheet music and chord charts are allowed if they do not get in the way of others, though memorizing parts is suggested. Participants are expected to follow jam etiquette, and guidance is available online. The focus stays on bluegrass. Songs from other genres are fine when played in a bluegrass style, and the host may decline a selection to keep the session friendly and on track. Original tunes are possible when they are bluegrass and easy to follow, but this is not an open mic. No one has to play on every tune, including the weekly featured song. There is no kitchen service, so bringing your own food is welcome. A food truck may be scheduled if there is enough interest. To help prepare, the jam shares resources such as a weekly pre-selected song with charts and recordings, Spotify and Strum Machine playlists of tunes that have been called, and a running list of past selections with their keys and frequency.
