8 AMSun & Ski Sports - Charlotte Group RideSun & Ski Sports (Charlotte, NC)
A community road ride departs from the Sun & Ski Sports store in Charlotte, with staggered group starts and routes that wind over rolling terrain through South Charlotte, Waxhaw, Marvin, and into Lancaster County. Weather can affect whether the ride takes place. Restrooms and the shop are available before rollout for quick purchases and basic mechanical help, with a narrow window for last‑minute essentials prior to departure. Multiple pace options are offered so riders can choose the effort that fits. The fastest group covers roughly 35 to 42 miles at around a 20 mph average and does not stop or regroup. Another quick option averages about 18 to 19 mph, uses tight pacelines, includes a single rest stop, and has limited regrouping. A steady group rides about 27 miles at approximately 16 to 17 mph, employs pacelines, pauses once, and regroups several times. An intermediate choice targets roughly 17 to 18 mph over 27 or 35 miles with a structure similar to the steady group. A beginner pace around 14 to 16 mph over about 27 miles may be added based on interest, focusing on conversation, endurance, and skills, and is planned as a no‑drop experience. Overall, the ride aims to welcome all skill levels and promote wellness and camaraderie, while the quickest groups may function as drop or semi‑drop rides. Participants are expected to arrive ready, ensure their bikes are in good working order, know the route or have it downloaded, and be able to hold the pace of their chosen group. Helmets are mandatory. Front and rear lights, protective eyewear, and gloves are recommended. Road bikes are strongly suggested. Carry water, nutrition, a cell phone, and emergency contact information. Be comfortable with basic fixes such as flat repair and brake adjustments. Expect sections that share the road with urban traffic, stay on the correct side of the center line, and keep at least one hand on the bars at all times. All details are provided as‑is, and every rider accepts full responsibility for their own safety and any incidents before, during, or after the ride.
