7 PMFolk You! October 2026Montrose Saloon, Chicago
Inspired by songwriter circles in Nashville, Los Angeles, and New York, Folk You! began in December 2001 when Larry O. Dean, a Flint native and San Francisco transplant who is now a Chicago-based singer songwriter, set out to create an intimate yet wide ranging alternative to standard acoustic open mics and showcases. Each second Tuesday, three artists share the stage at the same time with little more than their songs, guitars, and occasionally a piano. There is no script. Performers might simply play, talk about how their pieces were written, or follow the moment. The guiding principle is that every selection is original and able to stand on its own without accompaniment. Larry hosts and performs alongside two guests, welcoming both solo folk minded players and songwriters who typically front electric bands to present their work in a stripped back setting. Now well into its second decade, the series continues with a lineup featuring LOD, Hannah Frank, and Robert S. Williams. Admission is free.

7:30 PMDaði FreyrThe Vic Theatre, Chicago
At The Vic Theatre in Chicago, Daði Freyr brings a solo performance that leans into playful synth pop, sharp wordplay, and ear-grabbing hooks. Many first met him through the breakout hit “Think About Things,” inspired by his daughter, which drew praise from P!nk, Russell Crowe, and James Corden and amassed over 100 million streams. His project I Made an Album showcased a fully self-made approach from his Berlin studio, blending dance-floor energy with introspective writing and a DIY sense of humor. With the forthcoming Too Much, Not Enough, he invited collaborators into the process, crafting songs that feel more focused and layered while circling themes of self-acceptance and the balance between craving everything and seeking calm. The result is a communal, spontaneous atmosphere where connection happens in real time. This event is for ages 18 and over. Backpacks, bags, laptops, and tablets are not permitted inside the venue.
