11 AMLake Okeechobee (Florida) Loop 2026Lake Okeechobee, FloridaSports

An inaugural multi-day cycling tour showcases Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida with three days on the elevated Herbert Hoover Dike, followed by a final day on the Great Florida Trail through sugarcane country and lush wilderness. The Herbert Hoover Dike, constructed in the 1930s, rises above the shoreline and delivers wide-open views of the lake’s plants, wildlife, and sweeping horizons. This spoke-style itinerary keeps things simple with all five nights based at a single hotel in Clewiston. A midweek leisure day is included, offering choices to ride, golf, fish, or enjoy an airboat outing, plus an onsite visit to one of the largest sugar factories in the United States and meals at a variety of distinctive restaurants. Expect a blend of paved and gravel terrain, only brief stretches on roads shared with cars, and several bridge crossings. The gravel is similar to crushed limestone rail trails and provides a stable surface. Road bikes are not recommended, and tires of at least 35 mm are advised, along with preparation for sun and wind. An introductory double-occupancy rate starts at $1,600 per rider when using the early bird code BPPLOL26. Lake Okeechobee is Florida’s largest lake and one of the biggest freshwater lakes contained entirely within the contiguous United States, often celebrated as the Bass Fishing Capital of the World. Variable winds are part of the experience, sometimes offering a tailwind and other times a headwind.
