S.O.S. is an Al-Anon Family Group holding weekly meetings in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, offering an open gathering for relatives and friends affected by another person’s drinking. Al-Anon is a mutual support fellowship for those impacted by alcoholism in someone they care about. It is separate from AA and is not intended for the person with the drinking problem. There is no cost to attend, discussions are confidential, and newcomers are welcome. Meetings focus on sharing personal insights and hard-won lessons. Hearing from others in similar situations can reduce isolation, deepen understanding, and encourage a step by step approach to daily life. Whether the drinker is still using alcohol, is sober or in recovery, is unwilling to seek help, or is no longer part of your life, this group offers perspective and practical ways to cope. As an open meeting, family and friends are welcome, and observers may attend as well, including professionals, medical personnel, students, reporters, and anyone interested in how alcohol use affects loved ones. The gathering takes place at The Alachua Club and the space is accessible. S.O.S. Al-Anon Family Group, AFG #2564, is part of North Florida District 3.
